Eligibility Requirements

To hold this assistantship, students must:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0.
  • Be registered for at least 9 graduate credits during each term of the assistantship.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in good academic standing.
  • Current enrollment in a graduate degree or certificate program

Position Overview

OLS Weekend and Evening Supervisor
Schedule: Part-time; Sundays (11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) and select weekday evenings (4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., based on availability)

The OLS Weekend and Evening Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of the Office of Learning Services during designated weekend and evening hours. This role ensures a welcoming, organized, and effective learning environment by supporting staff, managing tutoring services, and coordinating student engagement activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Open, operate, and close the Office of Learning Services on scheduled Sundays throughout the semester
  • Provide evening supervision and operational support on select weekdays, based on availability
  • Assist Desk Attendants in resolving complex or escalated student and operational issues
  • Manage drop-in tutoring sessions, including tracking attendance and ensuring smooth workflow
  • Oversee the OLS Beverage Bar, maintaining organization, supplies, and cleanliness
  • Coordinate and manage Laker Life events related to drop-in tutoring and review sessions
  • Support a positive, student-centered environment that promotes academic success

Required Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in a student services or academic support setting preferred
Additional Information: Sunday shifts follow a set schedule on designated dates throughout the semester. Evening hours are flexible and will be determined in collaboration with the selected candidate.

  • The GA will demonstrate professionalism in a student-facing environment by communicating clearly and respectfully with peers, staff, and students, while maintaining accountability, reliability, and appropriate workplace conduct during all supervised shifts.
  • The GA will apply foundational management skills by overseeing daily operations of the Office of Learning Services, including coordinating drop-in tutoring sessions, supporting staff (e.g., Desk Attendants), and ensuring an organized, efficient, and welcoming learning environment.
  • The GA will utilize problem-solving strategies and appropriate technology to address operational and student-related challenges, including managing attendance systems, supporting event coordination (e.g., Laker Life), and troubleshooting scheduling or service issues effectively and independently.
