    Job Description and Key Responsibilities including Virtual/Remote Expectations:
    Rice Creek Field Station is a dynamic, state-of-the-art building and nature preserve 1 mile south of main campus, accessible via the Green Route bus. The station serves as a platform for field courses, research, and public education. The Rice Creek GA will join a small, dedicated team supporting the mission and functioning of the facility.

    GA responsibilities will include:

    • Front desk coverage and general office support
    • Event and program support, including setup and take down
    • K-12 field trip assistance • Facility tours for current and prospective students
    • Outreach activities, such as tabling
    • Providing access to equipment and facilities for students and faculty

    Special projects will be assigned based on GA interest and areas of study/expertise. These may include:

    • Developing environmental education materials, such as field trip lesson plans, or a QR-code guided trail experience
    • Social media and marketing support
    • Science communication and/or illustration
    • Specimen digitization for biological collections
    • Designing museum displays


    Generally, all work will be completed in-person at Rice Creek, although flexibility exists for illness, etc.

    List any Learning Outcomes related to the GAs Academic Program:
    The GA will gain experience in field station/nature center/museum operations, including skills of problem solving, communication, public outreach, and project management. Additionally, the GA will build experience in environmental education and interpretive design by facilitating field trips and taking on special projects. Graduate students in Education, Communication and Design, and the Sciences may find these learning outcomes especially relevant for their degrees.

    Any restrictions to the type of student who would be eligible?
    There are no restrictions, although applications from students in Education, Communication and Design, and Human-Computer Interaction are especially encouraged. 

    What behavioral expectations do you have? For example, what is your preferred communication timeline for a GA who needs to call out sick?
    Our expectation that the GA and the existing team at Rice Creek will maintain regular communication. The GA will be consulted as to their preferred means, which could include email and text. Prompt notification in the event of calling out sick is appreciated. Overall, Rice Creek is looking for a GA who is a team player, with a positive, professional attitude and a willingness to help.
