The Graduate Assistant will play a crucial role in supporting the institution's commitment to accessibility and compliance with Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This position will primarily focus on creating documentation, assisting faculty and staff with accessibility challenges, and remediating course content to ensure an inclusive learning environment for all students.

A graduate assistant in this position can achieve the following learning outcomes:
Develop expertise in accessibility best practices and standards: The GA will gain in-depth knowledge of guidelines like WCAG 2.1 AA and their application in various digital environments, particularly within higher education.
Enhance documentation and technical writing skills: Through creating user guides, training materials, and policy documents, the GA will refine their ability to convey complex technical information clearly and concisely.
Improve instructional support and training abilities: By assisting faculty and staff, conducting workshops, and offering guidance on accessibility tools, the GA will develop skills in adult education and technical support.
Gain practical experience in course content remediation and accessibility testing: The GA will learn hands-on techniques for making digital content accessible, including converting formats, adding alternative text, and using accessibility testing tools.
Acquire knowledge of Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act: The role provides an opportunity to understand the legal framework of accessibility in educational settings and its implications for institutional compliance.
Cultivate research and critical thinking skills related to emerging technologies and accessibility: The GA will stay informed about new accessibility tools and methodologies, contributing to a deeper understanding of the field.
Develop collaborative and independent work skills within a professional setting: The position requires both autonomous work and participation in team discussions, fostering professional development in a university environment.
Familiarity with various learning and content management systems: The GA will likely work with platforms such as Brightspace and Drupal, gaining practical experience with these widely used systems.
