This position will provide experience in higher education through EXCEL: Experiential Courses and Engaged Learning, under the Division of Academic Affairs. The Service-Learning Graduate Assistant will support service-learning and the Focus Forward and Oswego Children’s Project school-based cooperative programs. The Service-Learning Graduate Assistant will work closely with the Focus Forward Program Coordinator and Service-Learning Coordinator to support undergraduate participants enrolled in service-learning courses. Key responsibilities will include assisting in the recruitment and training of undergraduate mentors, conducting interviews for potential mentors, assisting with overall program development, assisting with program assessment, and acting in a supporting role in courses like GST 102, 302, 303, 311, and 312. Other responsibilities include supporting campus and community outreach and administrative support. Seasonal responsibilities include event planning for campus visits and a yearly recognition celebration.List any Learning Outcomes related to the GAs Academic Program: The GA will gain an enhanced understanding of experiential programs in higher education, their types, and development, including service learning and internships/co-ops. The GA will gain important skills in program development and assessment. The GA will gain valuable experience conducting interviews, selecting and training candidates, and mentoring undergraduates. Any restrictions to the type of student who would be eligible? Valid U.S. driver's license, matriculated graduate studentWhat behavioral expectations do you have? For example, what is your preferred communication timeline for a GA who needs to call out sick? GA will coordinate with the supervisor to establish a plan for working hours. GA will be prepared to communicate via regular e-mail correspondence and Zoom meetings if work is done remotely. GA will use preferred communication channels such as e-mail to notify the supervisor if work must be missed. GA and the coordinator will discuss potential remote work plans.
