Eligibility Requirements

To hold this assistantship, students must:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0.
  • Be registered for at least 9 graduate credits during each term of the assistantship.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in good academic standing.
  • Current enrollment in a graduate degree or certificate program

Position Overview

GA for Senior Checklists, Graduation Database, and undergraduate student advisement. This assistant will work to organize, review and manage graduation plans and maintain a senior checklist database, as well as to use such information to update DegreeWorks plans. The ideal graduate assistant candidate should have a general knowledge and understanding of NY State Teacher Certification, as well as SUNY General Education, major degree requirements, and college forms and procedures to assist students and faculty advisors during advisement and graduation review. This assistant will work closely with the advisement coordinator and routinely interact with students, faculty and other offices on campus. This assistant will maintain regular advisement office hours, student appointments, and will maintain advisement records electronically. The GA may assist to host online virtual drop-in hours, online small group advising, and 1:1 or small group in-person meetings with students and advisors.

Required Qualifications

  • Should have a fair working knowledge of Google Sheets or Excel spreadsheet(s).
  • Student with working general knowledge of NY State Teacher Certification preferred.

  Behavior Expectations:

  • Behavioral expectations include a positive and professional standard of presentation; maintaining a regular schedule and office hours to meet with students; contact supervisor directly by phone and/or email for sick call (allowing for communication about rescheduling student appointments and shifting important or timely tasks to others).
