Eligibility Requirements

To hold this assistantship, students must:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0.
  • Be registered for at least 9 graduate credits during each term of the assistantship.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in good academic standing.
  • Current enrollment in a graduate degree or certificate program

Position Overview

The Office of Marketing and Communications is seeking a graduate assistant to support enrollment-focused content development and storytelling. This position will help create engaging content that showcases the SUNY Oswego student experience, academic opportunities and outcomes for prospective students and other key audiences.

The graduate assistant will work closely with the Marketing and Communications team to identify and develop student stories, support social media content and contribute to enrollment marketing efforts. A particular focus will be placed on highlighting graduate students, graduate programs and the experiences and opportunities available to all prospective students across SUNY Oswego.

This position is a strong opportunity for a graduate student interested in strategic communications, marketing, social media, content creation, storytelling and/or higher education marketing to gain hands-on professional experience.

Key Responsibilities

The graduate assistant will:
  • Identify and develop student stories that support undergraduate and graduate enrollment marketing.
  • Interview students, faculty, alumni and others to gather content for student profiles, web stories, social media and other marketing materials.
  • Assist with creating social media content highlighting academics, student experiences, career preparation, campus life and other aspects of the SUNY Oswego experience.
  • Develop content specifically highlighting graduate programs, graduate students and graduate student experiences.
  • Help identify opportunities to showcase student success stories, internships, research, hands-on learning and career outcomes.
  • Write and edit short-form content for social media, websites, email and other digital platforms.-Assist with capturing basic photo and video content for social media when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with members of the Marketing and Communications team on enrollment campaigns and content priorities.
  • Help organize and maintain a pipeline of student stories and content opportunities. 

Required Qualifications

  • Current SUNY Oswego graduate student in good academic standing
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to write clear, engaging content for a variety of audiences and platforms
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Comfortable communicating with and interviewing students, faculty and staff
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and digital content

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate student in Strategic Communication, MBA, marketing, communications or a related field- Experience creating content for social media, websites, email or other digital platforms
  • Experience with interviewing, storytelling or feature/profile writing- Familiarity with Canva or other content creation tools
  • Basic photography and/or short-form video experience
  • Understanding of social media trends and best practices
  • Interest in higher education marketing, enrollment communications or student recruitment
  • Experience developing content for different audiences and adapting tone and messaging by platform
