Eligibility Requirements

To hold this assistantship, students must:

  • Maintain a minimum cumulative graduate GPA of 3.0.
  • Be registered for at least 9 graduate credits during each term of the assistantship.
  • Be enrolled as a full-time graduate student in good academic standing.
  • Current enrollment in a graduate degree or certificate program

Position Overview

The Office of Marketing and Communications is seeking a graduate assistant to support university photography and visual storytelling. This position will help capture authentic, high-quality images that showcase SUNY Oswego’s students, academic programs, campus life and university community for use across marketing and communications.

The graduate assistant will also support SUNY Oswego’s Digital Asset Management (DAM) system by organizing and maintaining photography for use across the university. This position provides hands-on professional experience in photography, visual storytelling, asset management and higher education marketing.

Key Responsibilities

The graduate assistant will:
  • Photograph students, faculty, academic programs, campus life and university events.
  • Coordinate photo shoots and assist with identifying and recruiting participants.
  • Edit, select and prepare photography for use across university communications.
  • Upload, organize, tag and maintain photography within the university’s DAM.
  • Help identify photography needs and gaps in the university’s existing asset library.
  • Support photography and visual content needs for Graduate Studies and graduate programs.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Communications staff on visual storytelling and creative projects.
  • Assist with other photography and visual content projects as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Current SUNY Oswego graduate student in good academic standing
  • Demonstrated photography experience (please show examples)
  • Understanding of basic photography techniques, composition and lighting
  • Experience with photo editing software- Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Comfortable photographing and interacting with students, faculty and staff
  • Ability to work occasional university events outside regular business hours

Preferred Qualifications

  • Portfolio demonstrating photography and visual storytelling skills
  • Experience with Adobe Lightroom, Photoshop or other Adobe Creative Cloud applications
  • Experience with event, portrait or lifestyle photography
  • Familiarity with Digital Asset Management (DAM) systems
  • Experience creating photography for marketing, communications or social media
  • Interest in higher education marketing and visual communications
  • Basic graphic design or video experience
