    Job Description and Key Responsibilities including Virtual/Remote Expectations:
    The GA will assist with the review of each student teaching applicant’s academic eligibility; the assistant will routinely collect and submit data that will be shared between the department Advising Center, the Student Teaching Director, and the SOE Clinical Practice and Partnerships Office. The Graduate Assistant will work with the Advisement Coordinator to review each candidate’s academic eligibility through transcript and Degreeworks review, as well as to maintain a student teaching database. This assistant will help to maintain and update the office website and online schedulers, to include timely announcements, weekly office hours and links to relevant and reliable resources. This assistant should have working knowledge and understanding of NY State Teacher Certification requirements as well as SUNY General Education, major degree requirements, forms and procedures to assist and inform students and faculty during advisement/registration and throughout the student teaching academic review. This assistant will maintain regular advisement office hours and appointments with students, and will maintain advisement records electronically. 

    The GA will assist: first year advisor(s) and continuing department advisees with transition, advisement and referrals; and department Academic Probation Advisors with record keeping. The assistant will provide Advisory Workshop(s) for timely topics such as: registration; NYS Learning Standards; Teacher Certification Exams; Block One Group Advisement; Teacher Certification Application process; Additional Certifications; and using Tk20/Watermark (SOE electronic portfolio system). 

    Primarily this position is considered “in-person”, though can be carried out electronically if we are required to work remotely. While working remotely there would be an expectation for access to the internet and technology that allows for attending regular group team meeting, hosting online virtual drop-in hours and 1:1 or small group meetings with students; along with individual training with the advisement coordinators.

This position provides an opportunity to work with students and faculty in a professional setting, as well as planning and organizing toward specific goals.

    Must be accepted to a Graduate Program. Should have a fair working knowledge of Google Sheets or Excel spreadsheet(s). Student with working general knowledge of NY State Teacher Certification preferred.

    Behavioral expectations include a positive and professional standard of presentation; maintaining a regular schedule and office hours to meet with students; contact supervisor directly by phone and/or email for sick call (allowing for communication about rescheduling student appointments and shifting important or timely tasks to others).
